Summary

H14-8 Knowledge closes Damien Hirst's 2024 H14 timed-edition series published by HENI. It is a laminated Giclee print on aluminium composite panel measuring 120 x 93 cm. As a timed edition, its run size was determined by collector demand within a fixed window rather than an advance cap, consistent with HENI's release model.

Why It Matters

Knowledge is the eighth and final H14 title, capping the virtue sequence with one of its weightiest concepts. The laminated aluminium panel gives the work a sharp, rigid finish at a commanding 120 x 93 cm scale. As the closing title, it holds particular appeal for collectors completing the series and drawn to its thematic bookend.

Collector Perspective

The scarcity of Knowledge follows from demand during its timed release, so launch interest defined how many exist. Collectors value the durable aluminium composite support and large-format presentation. Positioned last in the eight-title set, Knowledge is often the piece that finishes a complete H14 collection, adding to its desirability among set-builders.

Historical Context

The timed-edition approach Hirst refined with HENI on The Currency lets demand set a release's size. H14 extends that to large panel prints. Hirst's use of abstract virtue titles reflects his enduring fascination with meaning, knowledge and belief, ideas that recur across his medicine cabinets, spot paintings and blossom canvases.

About the Artist

Damien Hirst (born 1965, Bristol) is a British artist and the most prominent figure of the Young British Artists (YBAs). Rising to fame in the late 1980s and 1990s, he built a practice around mortality, science, religion, and beauty — from formaldehyde-preserved animals to his Spot, Spin, and Butterfly (Kaleidoscope) series. Hirst is also one of the most prolific printmakers in contemporary art, releasing extensive signed editions through his own science-led studio and, more recently, the HENI imprint. His work has commanded record prices and defined the market for blue-chip contemporary editions.

Collecting Damien Hirst at Gauntlet Gallery

Which Damien Hirst prints should I collect?

Signed, numbered editions from his signature series — Spots, Butterflies/Kaleidoscope, Spins, Cherry Blossoms, and skull works — are the collectible core. Look for strong condition and the artist's pencil signature. Gauntlet Gallery prioritizes complete, well-documented impressions.

How is a Hirst print authenticated?

We sell Hirst works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering; many carry HENI or studio documentation. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details.

What drives value?

Series and image (iconic Spots and Butterflies lead), edition size, format and scale, condition, and provenance all drive value. Hand-signed, low-numbered, and diamond-dust or foilblock works command premiums.
