Summary

H14-1 Realisation is part of Damien Hirst's 2024 H14 timed-edition series published by HENI. It is a laminated Giclee print on an aluminium composite panel measuring 120 x 93 cm. As a timed edition, the run size is set by demand during a fixed release window rather than a pre-capped number, a format HENI has used across several of Hirst's editions.

Why It Matters

Realisation opens the H14 series, whose titles read as a sequence of virtues and states of mind. The aluminium composite support and laminated surface give the print a rigid, contemporary presentation distinct from paper editions. Its large 120 x 93 cm scale makes it a statement work while remaining an approachable entry into Hirst's HENI catalogue.

Collector Perspective

Because H14 is a timed edition, the final number produced depends on how many collectors ordered within the release window, which makes early demand the key variable in eventual scarcity. Collectors are drawn to the durable aluminium panel and the thematic set of eight titles, with Realisation carrying appeal as the opening work in the named sequence.

Historical Context

HENI popularised the timed-edition model with Hirst, most famously through The Currency, where a fixed sales window determined the run. The H14 series applies that same demand-driven approach to large laminated panel prints, continuing Hirst's long collaboration with HENI to distribute editions directly and at scale to a global collector base.

About the Artist

Damien Hirst (born 1965, Bristol) is a British artist and the most prominent figure of the Young British Artists (YBAs). Rising to fame in the late 1980s and 1990s, he built a practice around mortality, science, religion, and beauty — from formaldehyde-preserved animals to his Spot, Spin, and Butterfly (Kaleidoscope) series. Hirst is also one of the most prolific printmakers in contemporary art, releasing extensive signed editions through his own science-led studio and, more recently, the HENI imprint. His work has commanded record prices and defined the market for blue-chip contemporary editions.

Collecting Damien Hirst at Gauntlet Gallery

Which Damien Hirst prints should I collect?

Signed, numbered editions from his signature series — Spots, Butterflies/Kaleidoscope, Spins, Cherry Blossoms, and skull works — are the collectible core. Look for strong condition and the artist's pencil signature. Gauntlet Gallery prioritizes complete, well-documented impressions.

How is a Hirst print authenticated?

We sell Hirst works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering; many carry HENI or studio documentation. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details.

What drives value?

Series and image (iconic Spots and Butterflies lead), edition size, format and scale, condition, and provenance all drive value. Hand-signed, low-numbered, and diamond-dust or foilblock works command premiums.
