Know the Releases, Colorways, and Edition Sizes

KAWS vinyl figures are released in defined runs, and the specific release is the first thing that drives value. Before you buy, confirm exactly which figure you are looking at: the character (Companion, BFF, Chum, Accomplice, Small Lie, Gone, Holiday, Together), the size and format, the colorway (typically brown, grey, black, and seasonal or open editions), and the year and manufacturer. Open editions such as several Holiday and Companion releases behave very differently in the market from earlier limited runs, so matching a figure to a known release is essential. When a listing cannot tell you the exact release name, colorway, and year, treat that as a reason to slow down, not speed up.

Verify Authenticity: Packaging, Source Trail, and Markings

Check for paint scuffs, sun-fading (especially on lighter colorways), stress marks, yellowing, and any repairs. Just as important is completeness: the original box, inserts, and any hangtags, cards, or authentication labels. A figure with a clean body but a crushed or missing box will usually trail a complete example. Store and ship with the box, and photograph condition honestly — the market rewards transparency.
