Summary

Desert is a 2009 giclee print by Kai & Sunny on 100% cotton Somerset Enhanced paper, in an edition of 4. The unframed sheet measures 107 by 155 cm, framed in oak at 130 by 175 cm, evoking arid expanse and drifting form through the duo's dense, rhythmic linework at monumental scale.

Why It Matters

Desert broadens Kai & Sunny's landscape vocabulary to arid, open terrain, abstracted into flowing line fields. As a large-format giclee in an edition of only 4, it belongs to the scarce, gallery-scale tier of their 2009 nature works.

Collector Perspective

With just 4 impressions at over 1.5 metres, Desert offers strong rarity and commanding presence. Printed on archival Somerset cotton and framed in oak, it suits collectors seeking a major landscape-abstraction statement from the duo's earlier large-format period.

Historical Context

Dated 2009, Desert reflects Kai & Sunny's ongoing translation of natural landscapes into intricate linear abstraction. The unfinished-by-hand giclee treatment keeps emphasis on the interplay of line, space, and openness across a monumental sheet.

Kai & Sunny are a London-based artistic duo, Kai Clements and Sunny Todd, who met at art college and have collaborated since the late 1990s. They are known for intricate, hand-drawn line work exploring nature, patterns, and the forces of the natural world, often rendered as flowing, wind-swept compositions. Beyond fine-art prints and installations, they have built a notable design career, including celebrated collaborations with author Ben Okri and cover artwork for Penguin's editions of J.G. Ballard. Their editions are published in tightly controlled runs and have been exhibited internationally.
