Summary

Invasion Kit #08 (Third Eye), a 2008 Space Shop release, is a build-it-yourself mosaic composed of 72 ceramic tiles at roughly 7.1 x 6.3 inches (16 x 18 cm). The kit came in an edition of 30 signed and 150 unsigned, priced at the time at 250 and 100 euros respectively. Its "Third Eye" motif introduces a mystical, single-eye character into the invader lexicon.

Why It Matters

The documented tile count of 72 and the split signed/unsigned edition make this kit especially legible for collectors mapping the series' structure. The Third Eye imagery departs from a straight video-game invader toward something more symbolic, showing how Invader varied his characters across the kit run while keeping the tile-mosaic method constant.

Collector Perspective

The signed edition of 30 is the scarcer, more sought tier; the unsigned 150 is the accessible entry point. Complete kits with all 72 tiles and original packaging, unassembled, are ideal. Original pricing of 250/100 euros is a historical reference point, not a current value. Confirm signature status and full tile count before buying.

Historical Context

Issued in 2008 through Space Shop, this kit sits within Invader's series that turned the street mosaic into a domestic, hands-on object. The clearly tiered edition and euro pricing reflect the European base of the artist's distribution and the collector market for his kits at the time.

About the Artist

Invader (born 1969, France) is a pseudonymous French urban artist known for installing mosaic works inspired by 1970s-80s arcade video games, most famously the aliens from Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s he has "invaded" cities worldwide, cementing tile mosaics onto walls and mapping each installation as part of a global game. His studio output extends the pixel aesthetic into prints, "Rubikcubism" works made from Rubik's Cubes, aluminum pieces, and alias-signed editions. He remains anonymous, appearing publicly only masked.

Collecting Invader at Gauntlet Gallery

What Invader works can I collect?

Beyond street mosaics, Invader releases signed, numbered editions — screenprints, giclées, aluminum and Rubikcubism works — plus his "Invasion Kits." Signed and numbered studio editions are the collectible core. Gauntlet Gallery focuses on complete, well-preserved impressions with documentation.

How is an Invader piece authenticated?

We sell Invader works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details, so you can verify before buying.

What drives value?

Medium (unique Rubikcubism and aluminum works over open prints), edition size, iconic imagery, condition, and provenance all shape price. Hand-made and low-numbered pieces command the strongest premiums.
