OFF! You Will Do What We Say
Work Summary & Collector Notes
Punk rock band OFF! which includes Keith Morris, Dimitri Coats, Autry Fulbright II, & Justin Brown are making a movie called “Free LSD.” I’m a big fan of OFF! As well as the other legendary bands Keith has sung for, Black Flag and the Circle Jerks. In fact, the Circle Jerks were one of the first hardcore bands I saw when they came to my home of Charleston S.C. in 1986. According to OFF! lead singer Keith Morris: “You will do what we say”… is an MK Ultra mantra from out of the shadows, under the hardwood and the linoleum floorboards, or a ray of light into the center of the brain. Worship at the church of the central intelligence agency! – These cryptic words were all I could get from Keith because Free LSD is, of course, a top-secret project about mind control which might already have me hypnotized. I originally created this print for their Kickstarter for the film which they barely fell short of funding. I want to see this OFF! Free LSD project come to fruition. I’m releasing a second limited run of these prints in Aqua Drab on my website this Thursday to raise money for it. OBEY Clothing will also be releasing 2 OFF! skate decks featuring art of mine and Raymond Pettibon. In addition, there will be an OFF! X Raymond Pettibon print and more that will be available on the OBEY Clothing website. Stay tuned for a release date on those coming soon. – Shepard PRINT DETAILS: OFF! Documented History and Meaning
History note: Shepard Fairey's OBEY / Andre the Giant campaign began in 1989 and grew into a long print and public-art practice; this page treats that as career context, not proof that this specific edition belongs to any single exhibition.
Meaning / interpretation: Fairey's practice combines propaganda-style imagery, political and countercultural themes, and a recurring OBEY vocabulary. Subject-specific intent is not assumed here unless the release record states it. This interpretive note follows the cited artist or publisher context.
Release context: The saved catalog lists 2022 and attributes the edition to Obey Giant.
