Eyes Open
Work Summary & Collector Notes
This Eyes Open screen print is the follow-up to the Wake Up letterpress I released over the summer. I think as the dust settles from the election and we move into the holiday season, it is important to look to the future with our eyes open to our shared humanity. The image is an urge for us all to be alert, conscious, and analytical. Disinformation, division, and apathy have led to the weakening of pillars of our democracy, an ineffective response to Covid-19, and a lack of meaningful action on environmental destruction and climate change. We accomplish amazing things when we unite and focus on constructive goals, planting seeds, and nurturing them together until they bloom. There are many crucial things going on that demand us to live with our eyes and minds open that this print applies to, but I’ve chosen to donate proceeds to the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) to support their work toward legislation that protects the environment for all of our futures. Thanks for caring! -Shepard Eyes Open. 18 x 24 inches. Screen print on thick cream Speckletone paper. Signed by Shepard Fairey. Numbered edition of 625. $55. A portion of proceeds will go to NRDC . Documented History and Meaning
History note: Shepard Fairey's OBEY / Andre the Giant campaign began in 1989 and grew into a long print and public-art practice; this page treats that as career context, not proof that this specific edition belongs to any single exhibition.
Meaning / interpretation: Fairey's practice combines propaganda-style imagery, political and countercultural themes, and a recurring OBEY vocabulary. Subject-specific intent is not assumed here unless the release record states it. This interpretive note follows the cited artist or publisher context.
Release context: The saved catalog lists 2020 and attributes the edition to Obey Giant.
