KAWS Companion Colorway Complete Guide: Gray, Black, Brown, Pink, Blue Value Analysis
The KAWS Companion has appeared across dozens of colorways over two decades of production. Each colorway has a distinct production history, release context, and corresponding secondary market value. This guide covers the primary colorways and their current market positioning.
Black
The original Companion colorway. The first Companion figures (released through KAWS's store in limited quantities in the early 2000s) established black as the foundational colorway. Early black Companions from the first decade of production are now extremely valuable — documented examples from 2002–2006 have sold for tens of thousands of dollars at auction. Later open-edition black Companions are more accessible but still command a premium over most other colorways.
Gray
The most widely produced open-edition colorway. Accessible at retail historically and the most liquid format in secondary markets. Gray is the entry point for new Companion collectors.
Brown
A consistent secondary market performer. Commands a modest premium over gray in most recent sales data. The warm tone has proven consistently popular aesthetically.
Pink
Pink Companion releases have ranged from open editions to limited collaborations. Collaboration-context pink releases (including the KAWS × Dior pink) command substantially higher prices than open-edition pink. Standalone pink open editions trade comparably to gray.
Blue
Collaboration-specific blue releases (including joint work with brands in the streetwear space) have commanded premium pricing. Open-edition blue is accessible.
Rare / Collaboration Colorways
Colorways tied to specific collaborations — Supreme (red), Dior, fragment design, regional partnerships — command the highest premiums regardless of size. These are the apex of the Companion colorway hierarchy.
