Summary

Water is the fluid entry in Kai & Sunny's 2016 element series with colette and Element Skateboards. Printed on Featherlight 3 dyed veneer at 80 x 20 cm with an 8-inch width, its graphic renders the duo's rhythmic line work into a sense of motion, issued as part of a signed run of 100 sets of four.

Why It Matters

Water's undulating imagery is a natural fit for Kai & Sunny's wave-like mark-making, making it one of the more visually characteristic decks in the quartet. Its colette collaboration status ties it to the Paris store's celebrated program of artist objects, giving the board cultural standing beyond skate utility.

Collector Perspective

Collectors chasing the complete four-element set treat Water as essential, and its flowing composition often makes it a favorite of the group. When evaluating, focus on the integrity of the dyed veneer, the crispness of the printed face, and the presence of the artist signature.

Historical Context

Released in 2016, the deck reflects Kai & Sunny's dual footing in fine-art editions and applied design. By collaborating with colette and Element, they placed their imagery into the artist-skateboard tradition—an accessible yet collectible medium kept exclusive through small, signed editions.

What Kai & Sunny works should I collect?

Their signed, numbered silkscreen editions, often featuring metallic inks, blind embossing, and hand-finished detail, are the heart of the market. Foil and layered prints in small runs are especially collectible. Gauntlet Gallery selects pieces in pristine condition with crisp embossing and complete signing.

How is authenticity handled?

Kai & Sunny editions are offered with documented studio provenance and the duo's signature and numbering. We photograph the specific piece you will receive, including signature, edition number, and any embossing, so every detail is verifiable before you buy.

What drives value?

Small edition sizes, special finishes (foil, embossing, hand-work), condition, and provenance from a documented release drive value. Sold-out, low-numbered, and specially finished editions command the strongest premiums.
