Summary

Rubik Country Life (2023) is a HENI timed edition presented as a Diasec-mounted giclée on aluminium composite panel, 100 x 100 cm and 13.5 kg. Numbered and hand-signed on the label, it reconstructs its source imagery through Invader's Rubik's Cube grid at a bold, square scale.

Why It Matters

Part of the Rubik Cubism strand, this edition demonstrates Invader's method of rebuilding a recognizable image from the fixed nine-square faces of Rubik's Cubes. The large Diasec panel translates that puzzle-based logic into a monumental object, making the mechanics of the technique legible at a distance.

Collector Perspective

With a timed edition of 431, this is one of the tighter runs among the 2023 Rubik panels, a scarcity note collectors will weigh. Authentication rests on the label signature and numbering. As with its siblings, the 13.5 kg aluminium panel and glossy surface require considered mounting and lighting.

Historical Context

Released in 2023 through HENI Editions, Rubik Country Life continues Invader's decades-long fascination with the Rubik's Cube as an artistic medium. His Rubik Cubism works treat the toy as a low-resolution palette, reimagining well-known imagery within the strict constraints of the cube's coloured squares.

About the Artist

Invader (born 1969, France) is a pseudonymous French urban artist known for installing mosaic works inspired by 1970s-80s arcade video games, most famously the aliens from Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s he has "invaded" cities worldwide, cementing tile mosaics onto walls and mapping each installation as part of a global game. His studio output extends the pixel aesthetic into prints, "Rubikcubism" works made from Rubik's Cubes, aluminum pieces, and alias-signed editions. He remains anonymous, appearing publicly only masked.

How is an Invader piece authenticated?

We sell Invader works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details, so you can verify before buying.
