Summary

Rubik Camouflage (2023) is a HENI timed edition, a Diasec-mounted giclée on aluminium composite panel at 100 x 100 cm and 13.5 kg. Numbered and hand-signed on the label, it fuses two of Invader's signature systems, the Rubik's Cube grid and camouflage pattern, into a single large-format image.

Why It Matters

This edition sits at the crossroads of two of Invader's recurring motifs, Rubik Cubism and camouflage, making it conceptually dense within his output. The 100 x 100 cm Diasec panel presents that fusion at commanding scale, appealing to collectors drawn to where the artist's coded visual systems overlap.

Collector Perspective

The timed run of 812 is among the larger editions in this group, reflecting strong demand during its window. The label signature and numbering are the key markers. Its 13.5 kg aluminium panel calls for secure mounting; the glossy Diasec face rewards even, glare-controlled lighting.

Historical Context

Issued in 2023 by HENI Editions, Rubik Camouflage reflects Invader's habit of cross-pollinating his own motifs. Both the Rubik grid and camouflage recur across his mosaics and editions; combining them extends his ongoing project of layering coded, pattern-based visual languages drawn from games and the street.

About the Artist

Invader (born 1969, France) is a pseudonymous French urban artist known for installing mosaic works inspired by 1970s-80s arcade video games, most famously the aliens from Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s he has "invaded" cities worldwide, cementing tile mosaics onto walls and mapping each installation as part of a global game. His studio output extends the pixel aesthetic into prints, "Rubikcubism" works made from Rubik's Cubes, aluminum pieces, and alias-signed editions. He remains anonymous, appearing publicly only masked.
