Van Gogh is a useful search term, but it is not a complete institutional credit for every related BE@RBRICK. Medicom’s Sunflowers and The Starry Night announcements explicitly identify different museum associations.
That makes the wording worth preserving in an artwork-led collection. The artist connects the figures; the exact artwork title, institutional reference, and release configuration distinguish them.
Read the association the manufacturer supplies
The Sunflowers announcement includes Van Gogh Museum in the product title and states that the figure was developed under that museum’s supervision. It specifies a 100% and 400% set with December 2019 planned release/shipping wording.
The Starry Night announcement names a collaboration with MoMA and mentions MoMA Design Store among the announced sales channels. It also specifies a 100% and 400% configuration, with August 2021 planned release wording.
These are product-specific statements. They should not be replaced with a general claim that every Van Gogh BE@RBRICK is a Van Gogh Museum release. Equally, the wording does not establish every museum’s role across other products you might find.
Organize by artwork, institution, and configuration
In the BE@RBRICK Master Index, open Sunflowers and The Starry Night as separate references. Keep the artist as one field and the institution wording as another in your personal notes.
That structure is helpful when a seller lists only “Van Gogh 400%.” You can ask which artwork and original configuration the offered figure matches. A familiar name alone leaves the museum association and even the exact target unresolved.
Do not use the product title as evidence that the figure is a museum-owned artwork, a unique original, or a signed edition. The manufacturer is describing a collectible product and its stated association. Claims about the original painting belong to a separate artwork record.
Decide what kind of connection you want
A collector interested in a particular painting may choose the artwork first and the format second. A museum-related collection may give the institutional wording greater weight. A mixed-size display collection may care most about retaining both figures in the original set.
Each is a reasonable organizing choice. None requires turning the institutional credit into a resale premium or a claim that one association is inherently more valuable. The announcements do not provide that market evidence.
If you are comparing original quotes, preserve their tax treatment: Sunflowers is quoted at ¥13,000 before tax, while The Starry Night is quoted at ¥16,500 including tax. Those historical amounts apply to their announced sets, not independently established prices for their larger components.
For photographs, link readers to the official sources unless you have a cleared image to reproduce. A source credit is useful attribution, but it does not by itself settle publication permission.
The museum wording adds a concrete research path. Follow it to identify the correct product and the claims the manufacturer actually made, then keep that precision when the figure moves from a search result into your collection.
