H15-4 Gabriel
Summary
H15-4 Gabriel completes Damien Hirst's four-part Archangels series of 2024, published by HENI Editions after his Cherry Blossoms paintings. A Giclee print on archival fine art paper measuring 52 x 144 cm, it is presented in a walnut frame and hand-signed and numbered on the front. The edition is limited to 100 impressions plus 20 artist's proofs.
Why It Matters
Named for the messenger archangel, Gabriel carries the same lush, layered blossom imagery that made Hirst's Cherry Blossoms one of his most warmly received painting series. As the fourth Archangel, it anchors the complete set, and its horizontal format echoes the sweeping scale of the source canvases in an edition collectors can actually live with.
Collector Perspective
Collectors value the front-facing signature and numbering and the finished walnut framing. With only 100 numbered impressions and 20 APs, the print is genuinely limited. Gabriel is frequently pursued to complete an Archangels quartet, giving it appeal to set-builders while also standing on its own as a single, decisively titled Cherry Blossom work.
Historical Context
The Cherry Blossoms series marked Hirst's celebrated return to gestural painting, shown at the Fondation Cartier in Paris in 2021. The 2024 Archangels editions extended that body of work into HENI-published prints, assigning each of the four archangel names to a distinct blossom composition and framing the cycle in devotional terms.

About the Artist
Damien Hirst (born 1965, Bristol) is a British artist and the most prominent figure of the Young British Artists (YBAs). Rising to fame in the late 1980s and 1990s, he built a practice around mortality, science, religion, and beauty — from formaldehyde-preserved animals to his Spot, Spin, and Butterfly (Kaleidoscope) series. Hirst is also one of the most prolific printmakers in contemporary art, releasing extensive signed editions through his own science-led studio and, more recently, the HENI imprint. His work has commanded record prices and defined the market for blue-chip contemporary editions.

Which Damien Hirst prints should I collect?

How is a Hirst print authenticated?
We sell Hirst works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering; many carry HENI or studio documentation. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details.

Series and image (iconic Spots and Butterflies lead), edition size, format and scale, condition, and provenance all drive value. Hand-signed, low-numbered, and diamond-dust or foilblock works command premiums.
