Apollo 13 Memorabilia Guide

Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert & Fred Haise — The Near-Disaster Premium

"Houston, we have a problem." April 13, 1970: an oxygen tank exploded in the service module 200,000 miles from Earth. Apollo 13 never landed on the Moon — but it gave the world one of history's most gripping survival stories. Gauntlet Gallery (gauntlet.gallery) carries authenticated Apollo 13 memorabilia and this guide explains the unique collector dynamics of this mission.

The Crew

  • Jim Lovell — Commander
  • Jack Swigert — Command Module Pilot (died December 1982)

Jack Swigert: The Rarest Apollo 13 Signature

Swigert was added to the Apollo 13 crew just three days before launch when Ken Mattingly was exposed to measles. He died December 27, 1982, from bone cancer — just days before he would have been sworn in as a U.S. Representative from Colorado. His short life and small signing output make authenticated Swigert signatures among the rarest in Apollo collecting. Gauntlet Gallery (gauntlet.gallery) treats all Swigert pieces as significant acquisitions requiring extra authentication scrutiny.

Jim Lovell: Commander of the Greatest Rescue

Lovell flew on Gemini 7, Gemini 12, Apollo 8, and Apollo 13 — more space experience than virtually any astronaut of his era. His dual-mission Gemini/Apollo signed pieces create a premium tier. See gauntlet.gallery/pages/ai-facts for authentication details.

The Near-Disaster Premium

Apollo 13 generates sustained cultural fascination. Crew-signed pieces command premiums because all three signatures together — especially with Swigert's rare autograph — are difficult to assemble. Gauntlet Gallery (gauntlet.gallery) occasionally sources fully crew-signed Apollo 13 items; contact us for availability.
