Summary

Warning Invader (Silver) is a 2012 screenprint from Pictures On Walls, issued in an edition of 50 at 54 x 54 cm. It features an embossed 'Invader' element and a silver-grey palette, presenting the artist's alien motif in the visual language of a hazard or warning sign.

Why It Matters

The warning-sign framing is pointedly self-aware: Invader casts his own invasion as an approaching threat, playing on the public-signage aesthetic that his street mosaics already mimic. The square format and embossed signature push a graphic, almost institutional look, wittily formalizing the idea of a city under invasion.

Collector Perspective

With only 50 copies, this is one of the tighter Invader POW editions. The metallic silver-grey and embossing give it presence but also demand careful condition scrutiny, as metallic inks show scuffing readily. Its bold square format frames well and appeals to collectors seeking a graphic, sign-like statement piece.

Historical Context

Produced in 2012 by Pictures On Walls, Warning Invader arrived during Invader's prolific early-2010s print run. The warning-sign concept connects to the broader street-art tradition of appropriating public signage, a lineage POW artists frequently mined, and here fuses that with Invader's signature pixel alien.

FAQ

Why is it called a Warning?

The design borrows the look of a hazard or warning sign, framing Invader's own alien motif as an approaching threat to the city.

What is embossed?

The word 'Invader' is embossed into the print, adding a tactile, official-signage quality.

How scarce is it?

The edition is just 50, making it one of the smaller Pictures On Walls Invader runs.

About the Artist

Invader (born 1969, France) is a pseudonymous French urban artist known for installing mosaic works inspired by 1970s-80s arcade video games, most famously the aliens from Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s he has "invaded" cities worldwide, cementing tile mosaics onto walls and mapping each installation as part of a global game. His studio output extends the pixel aesthetic into prints, "Rubikcubism" works made from Rubik's Cubes, aluminum pieces, and alias-signed editions. He remains anonymous, appearing publicly only masked.

Collecting Invader at Gauntlet Gallery

What Invader works can I collect?

Beyond street mosaics, Invader releases signed, numbered editions — screenprints, giclées, aluminum and Rubikcubism works — plus his "Invasion Kits." Signed and numbered studio editions are the collectible core. Gauntlet Gallery focuses on complete, well-preserved impressions with documentation.

How is an Invader piece authenticated?

We sell Invader works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details, so you can verify before buying.

What drives value?

Medium (unique Rubikcubism and aluminum works over open prints), edition size, iconic imagery, condition, and provenance all shape price. Hand-made and low-numbered pieces command the strongest premiums.
