Summary

Space One (Red) is a 2013 five-color hand-pulled silkscreen from Pictures On Walls, printed on Somerset satin white 300gsm paper in an edition of 100. Measuring 38 x 37.5 cm, it commemorates Invader's Space One mosaic, which the artist launched to the edge of space via weather balloon.

Why It Matters

This print translates a genuine aerospace stunt into a collectible object. Invader physically sent a mosaic aloft, and Space One (Red) memorializes that ambition. Its foil white eyes and embossing add tactile dimension rarely seen in his editions, marking a moment when his practice reached literally new altitude.

Collector Perspective

At 100 copies with a POW pedigree, this sits in the sweet spot of accessibility and status among Invader editions. The foil eyes and embossing reward in-person inspection and complicate reproduction. Condition of the delicate foil and crisp emboss should guide any acquisition, as both are prone to handling wear.

Historical Context

Released in 2013 through Pictures On Walls, the London print house behind much of Banksy's early output, Space One (Red) belongs to a period when Invader's Space Program conceptually launched his pixel aesthetic beyond street level. It exists alongside a hot-pink variant, giving collectors a colorway to chase.

FAQ

What does the red version differ from?

Invader issued Space One in a faithful colorway and an eye-bleeding pink variant. The red edition is the one described here, printed in five colors with foil white eyes.

Is it embossed?

Yes. The paper carries a specially embossed treatment alongside foil-detailed eyes, adding physical relief to the pixel figure.

How large is the edition?

The edition is 100, hand-pulled on Somerset satin white 300gsm paper by Pictures On Walls.

About the Artist

Invader (born 1969, France) is a pseudonymous French urban artist known for installing mosaic works inspired by 1970s-80s arcade video games, most famously the aliens from Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s he has "invaded" cities worldwide, cementing tile mosaics onto walls and mapping each installation as part of a global game. His studio output extends the pixel aesthetic into prints, "Rubikcubism" works made from Rubik's Cubes, aluminum pieces, and alias-signed editions. He remains anonymous, appearing publicly only masked.

Collecting Invader at Gauntlet Gallery

What Invader works can I collect?

Beyond street mosaics, Invader releases signed, numbered editions — screenprints, giclées, aluminum and Rubikcubism works — plus his "Invasion Kits." Signed and numbered studio editions are the collectible core. Gauntlet Gallery focuses on complete, well-preserved impressions with documentation.

How is an Invader piece authenticated?

We sell Invader works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details, so you can verify before buying.

What drives value?

Medium (unique Rubikcubism and aluminum works over open prints), edition size, iconic imagery, condition, and provenance all shape price. Hand-made and low-numbered pieces command the strongest premiums.
