Summary

Invasion Kit #15 ("Glow in the Space") is a 2013 ceramic-tile sculpture from Space Shop, composed of 110 tiles across 24 x 26 cm in an edition of 200, each signed and numbered on the reverse. Described as the largest of the kit series to that point, it features phosphorescent tiles that glow in darkness after light exposure.

Why It Matters

As the largest Invasion Kit at its release and the first built around glow-in-the-dark tiles, #15 is a standout in the self-published series. Its 110-tile composition and phosphorescent material give it a distinctive presence among Invader's DIY mosaic objects, offering collectors a scarce, technically novel work in the same medium as his street installations.

Collector Perspective

Collectors are drawn to the phosphorescent tiles, the ambitious 110-tile scale and the 200-copy run, all of which set this kit apart from smaller Invasion Kits. The rear signature and numbering authenticate it. Because it is a mountable ceramic object rather than a print, buyers assess tile integrity and the completeness of the kit as primary condition factors.

Historical Context

Invader's Invasion Kits, issued through his "Made in Space" Space Shop, let collectors assemble ceramic-tile mosaics identical in material to his installed works. Released in 2013, #15 pushed the format larger and introduced glow-in-the-dark tiles, extending the series' technical range while keeping its hands-on, self-published character rooted in the artist's arcade-inspired identity.

About the Artist

Invader (born 1969, France) is a pseudonymous French urban artist known for installing mosaic works inspired by 1970s-80s arcade video games, most famously the aliens from Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s he has "invaded" cities worldwide, cementing tile mosaics onto walls and mapping each installation as part of a global game. His studio output extends the pixel aesthetic into prints, "Rubikcubism" works made from Rubik's Cubes, aluminum pieces, and alias-signed editions. He remains anonymous, appearing publicly only masked.

Collecting Invader at Gauntlet Gallery

What Invader works can I collect?

Beyond street mosaics, Invader releases signed, numbered editions — screenprints, giclées, aluminum and Rubikcubism works — plus his "Invasion Kits." Signed and numbered studio editions are the collectible core. Gauntlet Gallery focuses on complete, well-preserved impressions with documentation.

How is an Invader piece authenticated?

We sell Invader works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details, so you can verify before buying.

What drives value?

Medium (unique Rubikcubism and aluminum works over open prints), edition size, iconic imagery, condition, and provenance all shape price. Hand-made and low-numbered pieces command the strongest premiums.
