Summary

Invasion Kit #13 (Made In Japan), released in 2010, is a build-it-yourself ceramic mosaic composed of 165 micro tiles, measuring 5.9 x 4.3 inches. Produced through Space Shop in an edition of 150, it lets collectors assemble and 'install' their own Invader piece at home.

Why It Matters

The Invasion Kits invert Invader's public practice: instead of the artist tiling a city wall, the collector becomes the installer. The 'Made In Japan' model marked the artist's Tokyo exhibition, extending his invasion metaphor into a participatory object and blurring the line between artwork, souvenir, and craft kit.

Collector Perspective

This unsigned kit was made to accompany the 'Home Sweet Home' show at Gallery Target, Tokyo, tying it to a specific exhibition moment. At 150 examples with 165 micro tiles, its appeal rests on the interactive concept and its documented Japan context. Sealed, unassembled kits are the most sought-after state.

Historical Context

Invader has invaded cities worldwide, and Tokyo has been a recurring stage. The kit format, echoing model-making culture, resonates especially in Japan. Released for a 2010 gallery exhibition there, this edition situates the artist's mosaic language within a hands-on, collector-participatory tradition.

About the Artist

Invader (born 1969, France) is a pseudonymous French urban artist known for installing mosaic works inspired by 1970s-80s arcade video games, most famously the aliens from Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s he has "invaded" cities worldwide, cementing tile mosaics onto walls and mapping each installation as part of a global game. His studio output extends the pixel aesthetic into prints, "Rubikcubism" works made from Rubik's Cubes, aluminum pieces, and alias-signed editions. He remains anonymous, appearing publicly only masked.

Collecting Invader at Gauntlet Gallery

What Invader works can I collect?

Beyond street mosaics, Invader releases signed, numbered editions — screenprints, giclées, aluminum and Rubikcubism works — plus his "Invasion Kits." Signed and numbered studio editions are the collectible core. Gauntlet Gallery focuses on complete, well-preserved impressions with documentation.

How is an Invader piece authenticated?

We sell Invader works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details, so you can verify before buying.

What drives value?

Medium (unique Rubikcubism and aluminum works over open prints), edition size, iconic imagery, condition, and provenance all shape price. Hand-made and low-numbered pieces command the strongest premiums.
