Summary

'Race Face' is a 2022 hand-pulled screen print from StolenSpace, D*Face's longtime London gallery. Built from 18 colours on heavyweight 370gsm Lambeth Drawing paper at 100 x 70cm, it is one of the artist's more technically ambitious editions, limited to 100 impressions and rendered in his signature comic-noir style.

Why It Matters

The 18-colour separation count is unusually high for a D*Face print and speaks to the layered, cinematic depth he pursues on paper. Paired with a tight edition of 100 and large-format sizing, 'Race Face' sits toward the collector-serious end of his StolenSpace output rather than the accessible entry tier.

Collector Perspective

Collectors weigh three levers here: the low edition of 100, the large 100 x 70cm footprint, and the hand-pulled 18-colour process that resists easy reproduction. StolenSpace provenance is a plus for authentication continuity. As a substantial format, framing and condition of the corners and margins will matter to discerning buyers.

Historical Context

Released in 2022 through StolenSpace, the gallery that has anchored D*Face's print program for years, 'Race Face' belongs to a mature phase of his career. By this point his visual language, drawn from American comics, pulp romance, and pop iconography, was fully codified, and StolenSpace editions were being produced to a consistently high print standard.

FAQ

How many were made?

The edition is limited to 100 hand-pulled screen prints.

Why is the 18-colour count notable?

Most screen prints use far fewer colours. Eighteen separations require many passes on press, adding depth and making the print harder to reproduce or fake.

Who published it?

StolenSpace, D*Face's longstanding London gallery and print publisher.

What paper is it on?

370gsm Lambeth Drawing paper, a heavyweight archival stock at 100 x 70cm.

About the Artist

D*Face is the working name of Dean Stockton (born 1978, London), a British street artist and a leading figure in the UK urban-contemporary scene. Drawing on comic books, pop art, skate graphics, and consumer iconography, he developed a signature cast of characters — winged "D*Dog" motifs, skull-faced pin-ups, and subverted Americana — rendered in bold, Lichtenstein-indebted lines. From stickers and street work in the early 2000s, he built a substantial studio practice of paintings, sculpture, and signed prints, founded the StolenSpace Gallery in London, and has collaborated widely across music and fashion.

Collecting D*Face at Gauntlet Gallery

Which D*Face works should I collect?

His signed, numbered screenprints — especially hand-finished and low-edition works — are the collectible core, prized for bold pop imagery. Look for clean condition and the artist's signature. Gauntlet Gallery prioritizes complete, well-documented impressions.

How is a D*Face piece authenticated?

We sell his works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering. Each piece is photographed as-is, including signature and edition details, so you can verify before purchase.

What drives value?

Edition size, hand-embellishment, iconic imagery, condition, and provenance all shape value. Low-numbered, hand-finished, and larger works command the strongest premiums.
