What Authenticators Actually Examine
- Signature characteristics — pen pressure, flow, letter formation
- Comparison to known genuine exemplars in the authenticator's database
- Ink aging relative to guitar age and material
- Provenance documentation provided by the submitter
Red Flags on Authenticated Guitars
- LOA from a private dealer not recognized by major auction houses
- Sticker without a verifiable serial number
- Authentication date that postdates the artist's death by many years with no explanation
- Price dramatically below market (e.g., a "$800 Hendrix guitar with authentication")
