ABOUT THE WORK
Fairey’s work has always borrowed the grammar of protest and propaganda — here he completes the loop, placing the OBEY icon in the hands of a demonstrator. Bold two-tone stencil work, the diagonal shadow cutting the composition, and the direct gaze make this one of the most graphically arresting signed pieces in the accessible tier of the OBEY catalog.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Shepard Fairey (b. 1970) is one of the most influential street artists of his generation — creator of the OBEY Giant campaign and the 2008 Obama “Hope” poster. His work is held in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Smithsonian, and LACMA.
