“This Fractured Harmony print features a mandala — a symbol of wholeness and harmony. Both wholeness and harmony require unity of effort and respect for the health of the collective… so where do things stand when we are selfish and divided? Here a female protagonist peers at the viewer from behind the torn mandala, suggesting one individual’s sadness that respect for each other and the planet remains elusive. I believe freedom and self-determination can symbiotically co-exist with respect for the planet and collective well-being. I think we’ve been tricked into a false binary that I refuse to buy.” — Shepard Fairey

About the Artist

Shepard Fairey (American, b. 1970) is one of the most influential street artists of his generation. A RISD graduate, he rose to prominence with the Andre the Giant Has a Posse / OBEY campaign and the 2008 Barack Obama HOPE poster. His work is held by the Smithsonian, MoMA, LACMA, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, and he continues to release limited editions through Obey Giant.
