Shepard Fairey — Fan the Flames Sculpture

Gold Colorway • 12″ Epoxy Resin Bust • Edition of 250 • Brand New in Box • © Obey Giant Art 2025

What You're Getting

A brand-new, original-boxed Shepard Fairey sculpture — the Fan the Flames bust in its gold colorway, produced by Obey Giant Art in partnership with Beyond the Streets in 2025 as a limited edition of 250. It is the three-dimensional realization of one of Fairey's most recognizable contemporary images: the defiant woman behind a folding fan, her gaze fixed on the viewer, the fan itself unfurling into a spray of flame.

Standing approximately 12 inches tall and cast in epoxy resin at a substantial 2.5 kg, the piece has the heft and presence of a gallery object rather than a shelf toy. Every element of Fairey's flat, poster-born icon — the newsboy cap with its rose insignia, the ribboned hair, the engraved feathers of the fan — has been translated into carved relief and finished in a warm matte gold. It arrives unused and complete in its original box, ready for immediate display.

Authenticity, stated plainly: This is an officially produced Obey Giant × Beyond the Streets edition, authenticated by its molded production quality and the embossed marks on the reverse — the Obey star medallion and “FAN THE FLAMES © OBEY GIANT ART 2025 · BEYOND THE STREETS”. As a manufactured sculpture edition it is not individually hand-signed by Shepard Fairey, and we make no such claim. What you are buying is exactly what is pictured: a new, boxed, officially licensed Fairey sculpture from the edition of 250.

The Sculpture

Fairey's woman has always looked back at you — that is the whole point of her. Lifted from the 2019 Fan the Flames of Dissent image, she is calm, unhurried, and completely unafraid, holding a fan the way a poker player holds a winning hand. Here that flat propaganda-poster confidence is pushed into real space: the fan projects forward off the chest, the hair falls in ribboned waves down the back, and the whole surface catches light like beaten metal.

The gold finish does something specific to the image. Fairey's palette is usually red, black and cream — the visual grammar of agitprop. Rendered instead in monochrome gold, the piece reads less like a political poster and more like a devotional object or a struck medal, as if a symbol of dissent had been cast as a trophy. The tension between the rebellious subject and the luxurious material is the work; she has been made permanent, and slightly untouchable.

About the Artist & the Image

Shepard Fairey is one of the most influential artists to come out of American street art. The creator of the OBEY GIANT campaign and the 2008 Obama “HOPE” portrait, his work sits in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. His instantly legible style — bold, propaganda-inspired, built from red, black and cream — has made him one of the defining visual voices of protest art in the last three decades.

Fan the Flames of Dissent. First released as a screen print in 2019, the image belongs to Fairey's long line of powerful, watchful women. The fan — a fan that is literally on fire — turns an object of poise and concealment into an instrument of agitation. To “fan the flames of dissent” is to refuse to let a movement cool; she is the keeper of that heat, hidden behind the very thing that spreads it.

Beyond the Streets. The sculpture was produced in partnership with Beyond the Streets, the leading exhibition platform and cultural brand for graffiti and street art, founded by Roger Gastman. A Beyond the Streets collaboration places a piece squarely within the institutional history of the movement — the same world that has staged landmark museum-scale surveys of street art in Los Angeles, New York and London.

Authenticity

This is an officially produced Obey Giant × Beyond the Streets sculpture, and its authenticity is established the way it is for any licensed designer art object — through the casting quality, the matte gold finish, and the embossed copyright and Obey star marks on the reverse shown in the photographs, together with the original branded box. Because it is a manufactured edition rather than a hand-drawn original, there is no artist hand-signature or separate certificate, and we make no such claim. You receive exactly what is pictured and described.

Collector FAQ

Is this an original Shepard Fairey artwork?

It is an officially produced, licensed Shepard Fairey sculpture — an Obey Giant × Beyond the Streets edition of 250 from 2025. It is not a one-of-a-kind original or a hand-signed work, and it is not authenticated by an artist signature. Its authenticity rests on the official production, the embossed Obey and copyright marks, and the original packaging shown in the photos.

Is the sculpture signed or numbered?

It is a manufactured limited edition of 250 rather than a hand-signed, individually numbered piece. Please see the photographs for the embossed marks on the reverse base, which identify it as an official Obey Giant Art 2025 × Beyond the Streets release.

What is it made of, and how big is it?

It is cast in epoxy resin with a matte gold finish, stands approximately 12 inches tall, and weighs about 2.5 kg. See the photos for exact scale against a reference.

What is “Fan the Flames”?

It is one of Shepard Fairey's signature images — a woman holding a burning fan, drawn from his 2019 “Fan the Flames of Dissent” artwork. This sculpture translates that flat poster icon into a three-dimensional gold bust.

Is it new and in the box?

Yes. The sculpture is brand new and unused, and it ships complete in its original foam-fitted box. Please refer to the photographs for the condition of the piece and packaging.

How will it be shipped?

It ships from San Francisco, fully insured and tracked via UPS, double-boxed and cushioned to protect the sculpture and its original box in transit.
