About the Work

A powerful and historically significant collaboration between two icons of contemporary art. Partisan depicts Ben Baseman — Gary Baseman's father — a WWII resistance fighter who survived the mass killings of 1941–42 in Eastern Europe and fought for over three years in the forests of Poland. Released May 2013 alongside Gary Baseman's exhibition The Door Is Always Open at the Skirball Cultural Center, Los Angeles. Co-signed in pencil by both Shepard Fairey and Gary Baseman.

Shepard Fairey (b. 1970) is among the most influential street artists of his generation, creator of the OBEY Giant campaign and the 2008 Obama "Hope" poster, with work held by MoMA, the Smithsonian, and LACMA. Gary Baseman is a Los Angeles artist and Emmy-winning creator known for blurring the lines between fine art, illustration, and pop culture.
