An authentic KAWS HOLIDAY Companion vinyl figure in the Brown colorway, released February 2019 by AllRightsReserved / DDT Store to coincide with the KAWS:HOLIDAY exhibition at the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall in Taipei. This is the first time KAWS produced a reclining version of the Companion character — a defining moment in the artist’s sculptural vocabulary that has since shaped his entire HOLIDAY series. The Brown colorway is the warmest and most collectible of the three released variants (Brown, Grey, Black).

This piece is brand new, factory sealed in its original clear protective packaging with the printed green KAWS:HOLIDAY graphics intact and the official authentication sticker (A23835) clearly visible through the shrink. The figure measures approximately 11.5 inches long in its reclining pose. The Companion’s signature crossbones face, mushroom-shaped ears, and two-tone brown body with mint green button accents are all visible through the packaging in pristine condition.

For serious collectors, sealed condition with an intact authentication sticker is the standard that drives premium valuations. About the Work

The KAWS:HOLIDAY series, produced in partnership with AllRightsReserved and DDT Store, is one of the most significant public art initiatives of the past decade. Beginning in Seoul in 2018, the series brings monumental inflatable and sculptural Companion installations to cultural landmarks around the world, accompanied by limited-run vinyl figures that have become instantly collectible. The Taipei installation in February 2019 featured a 121-foot reclining inflatable Companion on the lawn outside the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, drawing over a million visitors during its short run.

The Taipei vinyl figure marked a formal milestone in KAWS’ career: the first Companion to abandon the upright pose that had defined the character for two decades. By laying the figure down — head tilted, eyes closed in the signature X-mark grief gesture, body in repose — KAWS introduced a meditation on rest, vulnerability, and stillness that he would later carry forward into the BFF “Time Off” series of 2023. The reclining Companion is now widely regarded as the foundational form of the entire HOLIDAY catalog.

The Brown colorway in particular has held its value strongly on the secondary market. Its warm earth tone reads as more contemplative than the stark Black or muted Grey variants, and it photographs exceptionally well in collector displays. Sealed examples with the authentication sticker intact command meaningful premiums over opened or displayed copies.

About the Artist

KAWS (Brian Donnelly, b. 1974) is the most commercially and institutionally successful artist of his generation. Beginning as a New Jersey–born graffiti artist subverting bus shelter ads in the 1990s, KAWS built a body of work that now spans painting, sculpture, monumental public installation, and limited-edition vinyl figures produced in collaboration with Medicom Toy and AllRightsReserved. His Companion and BFF characters — both bearing his signature X-eye marks — have become two of the most recognizable contemporary art icons in the world.

KAWS has held major solo exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum, Mori Arts Center (Tokyo), Serpentine Galleries (London), National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne), and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. His monumental inflatable Companion has appeared from Seoul to Hong Kong harbor to a SpaceX lunar transit project. Auction results regularly exceed $10M, with “The KAWS Album” (2005) achieving $14.8M at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in 2019.
