It stands approximately 11.5 inches tall, finished in a mirror-bright metallic gold that turns the entire surface into a reflective object.

The Figure

The Companion has always been a figure of retreat. Born from KAWS's reworking of cartoon icons, he stands with both gloved hands pressed over his face — the signature XX eyes hidden behind his own paws, refusing to be looked at even as he asks to be seen. For the SPACE chapter, KAWS zips that vulnerability into an astronaut's suit: chest controls, life-support pack, heavy boots, the whole apparatus of survival wrapped around a character who just wants to hide.

Rendered in mirror gold, the melancholy tips into something monumental. The reflective surface pulls the room into the figure and throws it back warped, so the Companion is never quite still — he is a lonely astronaut cast as a trophy, isolation plated in precious metal. It is the tension KAWS builds into his best objects: a sad little cartoon, treated with the seriousness of a relic.

About the Artist & the Series

KAWS — Brian Donnelly — is one of the most collected artists of his generation, with work spanning painting, monumental sculpture, and coveted editions. His Companion character has appeared everywhere from museum retrospectives to a 121-foot floating sculpture in Hong Kong harbor, and his auction results run well into the millions. Few living artists move as fluidly between the fine-art world and global collector culture.

KAWS:HOLIDAY. Launched with AllRightsReserved, the KAWS:HOLIDAY series has sent the Companion around the world — reclining on a Korean lake, seated atop Japan's Mount Fuji, floating in Hong Kong. The SPACE chapter (2020) suited him up as an astronaut to mark the series' reach beyond the horizon, released in black, silver and this gold finish. The gold is the showpiece of the three.

This is an officially produced KAWS × AllRightsReserved figure from the KAWS:HOLIDAY SPACE collection, and it carries two layers of assurance: the original branded KAWS packaging shown in the photographs, and independent verification by StockX, whose green authentication tag is attached to the piece.
