Gauntlet Gallery — Kai & Sunny Print Index
Shifting Circle (Artist Proof)
Summary
This is the Artist Proof issue of Shifting Circle, a 2019 five-color screen print on 100% cotton Somerset satin 310gsm, tub sized, with a hand-deckled edge. Small and intimate at 31 x 31 cm, it exists in just 10 A/P impressions, each signed and marked A/P by the artists.
Why It Matters
Artist Proofs sit outside the main numbered run and are traditionally the most sought-after subset of an edition. With only 10 A/Ps of a compact 31 x 31 cm print, this is among the scarcest configurations in the group. The A/P designation carries a premium of desirability for collectors who prize the proof tier.
Collector Perspective
Ten A/Ps is an extremely limited pool. Collectors specifically pursuing proof-tier impressions will value the A/P marking, which should be clearly hand-notated alongside the signature. The small format makes it accessible to frame, but its scarcity, not its size, drives its collectible standing.
Historical Context
Artist Proofs are pulled for the artists outside the standard numbered edition, a long-standing print convention. Shifting Circle's circular, shifting geometry reflects Kai & Sunny's interest in orbital and cyclical form, here reserved in a tiny A/P run of 10.

About the Artist
Kai & Sunny are a London-based artistic duo, Kai Clements and Sunny Todd, who met at art college and have collaborated since the late 1990s. They are known for intricate, hand-drawn line work exploring nature, patterns, and the forces of the natural world, often rendered as flowing, wind-swept compositions. Beyond fine-art prints and installations, they have built a notable design career, including celebrated collaborations with author Ben Okri and cover artwork for Penguin's editions of J.G. Ballard. Their editions are published in tightly controlled runs and have been exhibited internationally.

What Kai & Sunny works should I collect?
Their signed, numbered silkscreen editions, often featuring metallic inks, blind embossing, and hand-finished detail, are the heart of the market. Foil and layered prints in small runs are especially collectible. Gauntlet Gallery selects pieces in pristine condition with crisp embossing and complete signing.
How is authenticity handled?

What drives value?
Small edition sizes, special finishes (foil, embossing, hand-work), condition, and provenance from a documented release drive value. Sold-out, low-numbered, and specially finished editions command the strongest premiums.
