About the Work

“Obey The Laws of Physics” distills Fairey’s OBEY iconography into a single hypnotic emblem — the Andre the Giant face radiating from a sunburst of triangles in his signature red and black. It is a cornerstone image of the OBEY visual language that grew out of Fairey’s Andre the Giant Has a Posse sticker campaign.

About the Artist

Shepard Fairey (American, b. 1970) is one of the most influential street artists of his generation. A RISD graduate, he rose to prominence with the Andre the Giant Has a Posse / OBEY campaign and became globally known for the 2008 Barack Obama HOPE poster. His work is held by the Smithsonian, MoMA, LACMA, and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
