Lennon Peace and Liberty is Shepard Fairey's homage to John Lennon, the musician whose anthems of peace made him a permanent symbol of nonviolent resistance. In this blue colorway, Fairey renders Lennon's unmistakable round glasses and gentle features within a halo of decorative patterning and slogans, turning the former Beatle into a secular icon in the tradition of Fairey's other portrait heroes.

The choice of subject is deeply personal for Fairey, whose faith in music as a vehicle for political awakening runs through his entire career. By casting Lennon in the same reverent visual language he reserves for civil rights leaders and cultural revolutionaries, Fairey places the songwriter's message of peace and liberty squarely within the ongoing struggle for a more just world.
