“This print merges two seemingly contrasting concepts and aesthetics…chaos and harmony. I’ve always been fascinated by the cyclical chaos of posters and graffiti accumulating on the streets and then being ripped at by humans and the elements… the philosophy to embrace is ‘enjoy the ride and savor the ephemeral.’ Mandalas, on the other hand, are symbols of harmony, wholeness, and the universe in its ideal form… Buddhist monks poetically address the paradox of striving for harmony but accepting impermanence with their rituals of creating and destroying elaborate sand mandalas.” — Shepard Fairey

About the Artist

Shepard Fairey (American, b. 1970) is one of the most influential street artists of his generation. A RISD graduate, he rose to prominence with the Andre the Giant Has a Posse / OBEY campaign and the 2008 Barack Obama HOPE poster. His work is held by the Smithsonian, MoMA, LACMA, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, and he continues to release limited editions through Obey Giant.
