Summary

"Marlboro" is a 2014 serigraph by Invader, published by Art Alliance for the Provocateurs Print Portfolio, printed at 24 x 34 inches on 100% cotton rag archival paper with deckled edges in a signed, numbered edition of 200. It carries the Art Alliance publishing chop at lower left and translates the cigarette brand's iconography into pixelated form.

Why It Matters

As part of the Provocateurs 10-artist portfolio, "Marlboro" places Invader alongside a curated group of urban and pop artists in a single documented set. The large vertical format, cotton-rag stock and publisher chop give it strong physical presence, and its portfolio origin adds context for collectors interested in the projects that gathered street-art peers.

Collector Perspective

Collectors note the sizeable 24 x 34 inch scale, the deckled-edge cotton rag paper and the Art Alliance chop, all markers of a substantive publication. The edition of 200 is larger than Invader's boutique runs, so availability is broader. Buyers value both the standalone sheet and its context within the complete Provocateurs portfolio when provenance can be traced.

Historical Context

The Provocateurs Print Portfolio assembled ten artist prints as a curated set, issued through Art Alliance. Invader's contribution applies his pixel-mosaic treatment to the Marlboro brand, extending the pop-appropriation tradition of Warhol into an 8-bit register. The 2014 release reflects the ongoing crossover of street artists into fine-art print portfolios during that period.

About the Artist

Invader (born 1969, France) is a pseudonymous French urban artist known for installing mosaic works inspired by 1970s-80s arcade video games, most famously the aliens from Space Invaders. Since the late 1990s he has "invaded" cities worldwide, cementing tile mosaics onto walls and mapping each installation as part of a global game. His studio output extends the pixel aesthetic into prints, "Rubikcubism" works made from Rubik's Cubes, aluminum pieces, and alias-signed editions. He remains anonymous, appearing publicly only masked.

Collecting Invader at Gauntlet Gallery

What Invader works can I collect?

Beyond street mosaics, Invader releases signed, numbered editions — screenprints, giclées, aluminum and Rubikcubism works — plus his "Invasion Kits." Signed and numbered studio editions are the collectible core. Gauntlet Gallery focuses on complete, well-preserved impressions with documentation.

How is an Invader piece authenticated?

We sell Invader works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details, so you can verify before buying.

What drives value?

Medium (unique Rubikcubism and aluminum works over open prints), edition size, iconic imagery, condition, and provenance all shape price. Hand-made and low-numbered pieces command the strongest premiums.
