Summary

The Elements - Fire is a 2020 Damien Hirst giclée print published by HENI Editions, Diasec-mounted on aluminium composite panel at 100 x 100 cm. Issued in an edition of 60 plus 10 artist's proofs, each numbered and signed, it is the fiery counterpart within Hirst's four-part Elements series.

Why It Matters

Fire's warm palette often makes it a visual anchor of the Elements quartet. Its capped, hand-signed edition of 60 plus proofs gives it the scarcity and formality of traditional fine-art printmaking, distinguishing it from Hirst's open timed drops and appealing to collectors focused on limited, individually authenticated works.

Collector Perspective

At 100 x 100 cm with a glossy Diasec surface, Fire delivers strong wall impact and is frequently the most sought individual panel for its energetic tones. With only 70 impressions including proofs, supply is genuinely limited. Verify the signature and numbering, and inspect the acrylic face for scratches, which are hard to correct once present.

Historical Context

Part of Hirst's 2020 Elements series with HENI Editions, Fire applies his decorative print language to elemental symbolism. The Diasec-mounted aluminium construction underscores his commitment to durable contemporary substrates, while the signed-and-numbered capped edition situates it among the more conventionally collectible tiers of his prolific print catalogue.

FAQ

How many Elements - Fire prints exist?

The edition is 60 plus 10 artist's proofs, each numbered and signed by the artist.

Is Fire a hand-signed print?

Yes. Every impression in the Elements series is hand-signed and numbered.

What does Diasec-mounted mean here?

The giclée is face-mounted behind acrylic onto the aluminium panel, producing a glossy, protected, gallery-quality surface.

Why is Fire often popular within the series?

Its warm, energetic palette frequently makes it a visual centrepiece, though all four elements are equally limited in edition size.

About the Artist

Damien Hirst (born 1965, Bristol) is a British artist and the most prominent figure of the Young British Artists (YBAs). Rising to fame in the late 1980s and 1990s, he built a practice around mortality, science, religion, and beauty — from formaldehyde-preserved animals to his Spot, Spin, and Butterfly (Kaleidoscope) series. Hirst is also one of the most prolific printmakers in contemporary art, releasing extensive signed editions through his own science-led studio and, more recently, the HENI imprint. His work has commanded record prices and defined the market for blue-chip contemporary editions.

Collecting Damien Hirst at Gauntlet Gallery

Which Damien Hirst prints should I collect?

Signed, numbered editions from his signature series — Spots, Butterflies/Kaleidoscope, Spins, Cherry Blossoms, and skull works — are the collectible core. Look for strong condition and the artist's pencil signature. Gauntlet Gallery prioritizes complete, well-documented impressions.

How is a Hirst print authenticated?

We sell Hirst works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering; many carry HENI or studio documentation. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details.

What drives value?

Series and image (iconic Spots and Butterflies lead), edition size, format and scale, condition, and provenance all drive value. Hand-signed, low-numbered, and diamond-dust or foilblock works command premiums.
