Summary

Grace (H6-2) is a 2019 Damien Hirst giclée print, Diasec-mounted on aluminium composite panel at 100 x 100 cm, published in connection with the Fondation Beyeler. Issued in an edition of 50 plus 10 artist's proofs, it is the second work in Hirst's virtue-themed H6 series.

Why It Matters

Grace continues the H6 quartet's meditation on named virtues, sharing the series' limited edition of 50 plus proofs and its Fondation Beyeler association. That institutional link, combined with genuine scarcity, gives the H6 prints a more prestigious profile than Hirst's open timed editions and makes them attractive to collectors seeking formally authenticated works.

Collector Perspective

At 100 x 100 cm with a reflective Diasec surface, Grace has strong presence and pairs naturally with the other three H6 virtues. With only 60 impressions including proofs, supply is limited. Set-builders should prioritise matching condition across Mercy, Grace, Patience, and Goodness, and check the acrylic face-mount for scratches that are difficult to remedy.

Historical Context

Part of the 2019 H6 series released in connection with the Fondation Beyeler, Grace applies Hirst's decorative print language to the theme of virtue. As H6-2, it follows Mercy in the sequence. The Diasec-mounted aluminium format underscores Hirst's use of durable modern substrates, while the museum tie situates the series in an exhibition context.

About the Artist

Damien Hirst (born 1965, Bristol) is a British artist and the most prominent figure of the Young British Artists (YBAs). Rising to fame in the late 1980s and 1990s, he built a practice around mortality, science, religion, and beauty — from formaldehyde-preserved animals to his Spot, Spin, and Butterfly (Kaleidoscope) series. Hirst is also one of the most prolific printmakers in contemporary art, releasing extensive signed editions through his own science-led studio and, more recently, the HENI imprint. His work has commanded record prices and defined the market for blue-chip contemporary editions.

Collecting Damien Hirst at Gauntlet Gallery

Which Damien Hirst prints should I collect?

Signed, numbered editions from his signature series — Spots, Butterflies/Kaleidoscope, Spins, Cherry Blossoms, and skull works — are the collectible core. Look for strong condition and the artist's pencil signature. Gauntlet Gallery prioritizes complete, well-documented impressions.

How is a Hirst print authenticated?

We sell Hirst works with documented provenance and the edition's signature and numbering; many carry HENI or studio documentation. Each piece is photographed exactly as it ships, including signature and edition details.

What drives value?

Series and image (iconic Spots and Butterflies lead), edition size, format and scale, condition, and provenance all drive value. Hand-signed, low-numbered, and diamond-dust or foilblock works command premiums.
