"Power & Glory" Lotus — Letterpress Edition (2016)
Hand-Signed by Shepard Fairey · Hand-Numbered 96/450 · Embossed OBEY Icon
What You Are Getting
An authentic Shepard Fairey "Power & Glory" letterpress print from the 2016 Obey Giant release. The composition centers a stylized red lotus blooming above an industrial power plant, anchored by Fairey's "POWER & GLORY" banner — a recurring theme in his work interrogating energy, propaganda, and the iconography of state power. Printed in deep red on cream cotton paper with a fully deckled edge, embossed with the OBEY face icon in the lower-left margin, hand-numbered 96/450, and pencil-signed and dated '16 by Shepard Fairey.

About the Work
"Power & Glory" is one of Shepard Fairey's most-recognized recurring motifs — a tension piece that pairs the lotus (an image of spiritual flourishing across Hindu, Buddhist, and Egyptian iconography) with industrial-era infrastructure (smokestacks, power plants, refineries). The juxtaposition is deliberate: Fairey is asking what we worship, what we're powered by, and what visual language our institutions use to make themselves feel sacred.
The 2016 letterpress edition was released through Obey Giant and is one of the cleaner, more collectible iterations of this theme. The single-color red on cream paper, deckled edges, and embossed OBEY icon make it a strong representative example of Fairey's letterpress work — a format he uses for some of his most carefully crafted limited-edition releases.
About the Artist
Shepard Fairey (b. 1970) is an American contemporary street artist, graphic designer, and activist. He launched the OBEY Giant sticker campaign in 1989 while a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, and built it into one of the most recognizable street art and design brands of the past 35 years. His 2008 "HOPE" portrait of Barack Obama is held in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution.
Fairey's work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (NY), Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Smithsonian, the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), and many others. His prints are pencil-signed, hand-numbered, and authenticated with the embossed OBEY face icon. They are actively collected and resold through Sotheby's, Christie's, Heritage Auctions, and Artsy.

How does Gauntlet Gallery verify authenticity?
Every piece is reviewed against available authentication documentation before listing. For signed prints we cross-reference COA issuers, publisher records, edition counts, signature placement, and known release details. For music and space memorabilia we work with Beckett, JSA, PSA, and Zarelli Space Authentication. Items that cannot be documented to our standard are not listed.
How do you document condition?
We photograph each print under consistent lighting to show the actual paper, frame condition, ink saturation, and any aging or edge wear. Condition notes describe observable marks, foxing, deckle wear, or print aging in specific terms — not vague labels like "good." If a piece has a flaw that affects collectibility or value, we say so explicitly. Request additional close-ups before purchase.
How is the print packed and shipped?
Prints ship flat between two acid-free rigid boards inside a corrugated outer mailer with rigid corner protection. Larger prints over 24×30 may ship rolled inside a thick-walled tube with archival tissue. All shipments are insured for full value with tracked carrier service. Framed pieces ship in custom-cut wood crates with foam edge protection. Signature on delivery required over $500.
What documentation is included?
Original COAs, publisher certificates, third-party authentication letters, and Gauntlet Gallery condition reports ship with the artwork. Every piece also gets a blockchain-verified COA on Polygon via TrueCOA, permanently anchoring provenance. Specific documentation for each listing is noted in the product description.
Why buy from Gauntlet Gallery instead of a marketplace?
Marketplaces give access but leave buyers to judge authenticity, condition, pricing, and seller credibility alone. Gauntlet adds a trust layer through detailed photos, item history, condition notes, pricing context against 50,000+ market comps, fake-risk review, and blockchain-anchored documentation. Every listing is prepared by the same curator who sourced and reviewed the piece.
