About the Work
Fairey has been designing wallpaper patterns for over two decades, and the Deco Floral Pattern series represents the mature apex of that long-running practice. As he explained at the time of the release: the patterns began as supportive elements in his fine art compositions and large-scale street installations — rhythmic visual breaks between grids of posters and large figurative imagery. Over time, Fairey's focus shifted toward making each individual tile a compelling stand-alone image while maintaining seamless coherence as a repeating pattern.
The design draws explicitly from early Art Deco — specifically the transition period when Art Nouveau's flowing organic forms were becoming more geometric and structured. About the Artist — Shepard Fairey (OBEY)
