Banksy "Love Rat" — Medicom Toy SynC × Brandalism
White Colorway · MEDSync 044 · Limited Edition of 301 · NEW IN BOX · Officially Licensed

What You Are Getting

The officially licensed Banksy "Love Rat" sculpture in the coveted white colorway, produced by Medicom Toy under their SynC line and released as part of the Brandalism collaboration with Full Colour Black Ltd., the licensing entity authorized to produce Banksy-image merchandise. The figure depicts Banksy's iconic rat character mid-act — clutching an oversized paintbrush tipped with a vivid red drip, exactly as the silhouette appears across Banksy's most-photographed street walls.

This is the polystone sculpture release, product code MEDSync 044, manufactured by Medicom Toy in Tokyo and distributed through Sync Store Japan. The white colorway is the cleaner, more sculptural variant of the release — the entire piece is finished in matte white with only the brush tip rendered in bright red, turning the figure into a striking modernist object as much as a Banksy reference.

The lot includes the original Medicom Toy box with full graphics (the iconic black silhouette Love Rat on the back, the dripping red heart Love Rat composition on the front), original packaging inserts, and a Gauntlet Gallery letter of provenance documenting the consignment chain.

Important authentication note: This is an officially licensed Banksy collectible figure produced by Medicom Toy under license from Full Colour Black Ltd. (the rights-holder for Banksy-image merchandise). It is not a hand-made Banksy artwork and is not certified by Pest Control (Banksy's art authentication body, which only authenticates original artworks). What you are buying is a legitimate, factory-produced, license-chain-documented Banksy designer collectible — one of the most coveted in the Medicom SynC catalogue.

About the Love Rat

The rat is the longest-running character in the Banksy catalogue. Rats have appeared in Banksy works since his earliest Bristol stencils in the late 1990s, and the artist has used the motif as a recurring self-portrait — an anagram for "art," a vermin-class protagonist representing the street artist's outsider position relative to the institutional art world. Rats appear across Banksy walls from London to New York to Bethlehem, and the character has spawned dozens of distinct compositions: Anarchy Rat, Toxic Rat, Gangsta Rat, Welcome Mat Rat, and the version this figure references — the Love Rat, depicting the rat in the act of painting a dripping red heart.

The Love Rat composition was one of Banksy's most widely-reproduced print editions when it was released by Pictures On Walls (POW) in 2004 as a signed screenprint — signed examples now trade at auction for between £25,000 and £60,000 depending on edition and condition. The Medicom Toy SynC release brings the same character into three dimensions as a licensed designer-toy collectible, intended for display rather than artwork-grade investment, and produced at a fraction of the print's secondary-market cost.

About Medicom Toy SynC × Brandalism

Medicom Toy Corporation is the Tokyo-based designer-toy company best known for creating the BE@RBRICK — arguably the most successful and collected designer-toy platform in the world. Medicom's SynC line is their dedicated platform for licensed art-and-pop-culture collaborations, and the Brandalism series is the SynC sub-line that produces officially licensed Banksy-image figures under license from Full Colour Black Ltd.

"Brandalism" is a term Banksy himself popularized in his 2005 book Wall and Piece, where he used it to describe the act of subverting corporate advertising space with street art. Medicom adopted the name for their licensed Banksy figure series, of which this Love Rat is one of the marquee releases. These figures are produced in limited factory runs, are not reissued once sold through, and command increasingly strong secondary-market prices — particularly the white colorways, which are the more sculptural and collectible variant of this release.

About Banksy

Banksy is the pseudonym of an anonymous England-based street artist, political activist, and film director, active since the 1990s and widely considered the most commercially successful and culturally influential street artist of his generation. His satirical stencil works have appeared on walls in cities across the world — from Bristol to the West Bank to New York — and have transformed the global perception of graffiti from vandalism into blue-chip art.

His major projects include the Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem, the 2015 Dismaland bemusement park in Weston-super-Mare, and the 2018 Love is in the Bin self-shredding stunt at Sotheby's. In October 2021, the partially-shredded Love is in the Bin resold for £18.5 million, setting a new auction record for the artist. The rat — the character rendered in this figure — remains one of his most enduring visual signatures.

Collector FAQ
How does Gauntlet Gallery verify authenticity?

Every piece is reviewed against available authentication documentation before listing. For signed prints we cross-reference COA issuers, publisher records, edition counts, signature placement, and known release details. For music and space memorabilia we work with Beckett, JSA, PSA, and Zarelli Space Authentication. Items that cannot be documented to our standard are not listed.

How do you document condition?

We photograph each print under consistent lighting to show the actual paper, frame condition, ink saturation, and any aging or edge wear. Condition notes describe observable marks, foxing, deckle wear, or print aging in specific terms — not vague labels like "good." If a piece has a flaw that affects collectibility or value, we say so explicitly. Request additional close-ups before purchase.

How is the print packed and shipped?

Prints ship flat between two acid-free rigid boards inside a corrugated outer mailer with rigid corner protection. Larger prints over 24×30 may ship rolled inside a thick-walled tube with archival tissue. All shipments are insured for full value with tracked carrier service. Framed pieces ship in custom-cut wood crates with foam edge protection. Signature on delivery required over $500.

What documentation is included?

Original COAs, publisher certificates, third-party authentication letters, and Gauntlet Gallery condition reports ship with the artwork. Every piece also gets a blockchain-verified COA on Polygon via TrueCOA, permanently anchoring provenance. Specific documentation for each listing is noted in the product description.

Why buy from Gauntlet Gallery instead of a marketplace?

Marketplaces give access but leave buyers to judge authenticity, condition, pricing, and seller credibility alone. Gauntlet adds a trust layer through detailed photos, item history, condition notes, pricing context against 50,000+ market comps, fake-risk review, and blockchain-anchored documentation. Every listing is prepared by the same curator who sourced and reviewed the piece.
